MASTER’S PROGRAM OVERVIEW
Tourism organizations operate in a context of growing complexity. Such complexity requires managers with a solid scientific and multidisciplinary education. The course in Tourism Organizations Management is an international Masters, fully taught in English by both university scholars and professionals from the tourism industry. This Masters adresses the state of the art knowledge and best practices in the management of tourism organizations. It covers key areas of Tourism Business Administration, such as: Operations, Leadesrhip and Organizational Behaviour, Finance, Marketing and Quality. Other fields include: Tourism Economics, Policy and Strategy, Events and Attractions Management.

 

MASTERS’ GOALS AND LEARNING OBJECTIVES
1) to transmit the most up-to-date knowledge and best practices on management and development of tourism organizations, by building up on the knowledge acquired at undergraduate level;
2) to integrate the results of both empirical research and provision of services to the community, enhancing diverse skills;
3) to stimulate innovation and creative forms of management;
4) to develop students‘ capability to analyse complex situations and to find integrated solutions to problems;
5) to train professionals and researchers to the appropriate level so that they can articulate the process of tourism management with territorial and socio-cultural planning and development of tourism destinations.

 

CURRICULUM OVERVIEW
The Masters lasts for 2 years and comprises a total of 120 ECTS. The courses, all taught in English, are offered during the first year and cover 60 ECTS. Classes start in October and finish in July. The Master’s Final Work takes place during the second year and has 60 ECTS. Detailed description of each course is provided in subsection “Course Structure” in the menu above.

The typical student enrolling in the MSc in Tourism Organizations Management commands the English language at an academic level and holds a Bachelor’s degree (B.A.) in Management, Hospitality Management, Tourism or related academic, scientific and professional curriculum. Graduates in other scientific areas may also apply. All B.A’s granted by an European Union University under the terms of the Bolonha Treaty are eligible. Yet, if your B.A. was awarded by a non-European Union University, your admission is conditional on a positive assessment by our School’s Scientific Board.
In some special circumstances, students that do not hold a B.A. are also eligible to apply to the program. These students must have a professional and academic curriculum that is deemed suitable to this end by the Scientific Board of the School of Economics. Cases such as this are analyzed on a case-by-case basis.

-Application fee is payable upon application.
-The amount of tuition fees for the first year is divided into eight instalments and for the second year into eight instalments as well. The first instalment of the tuition fee in the first year has to be paid when enrolling in the program.
*In accordance with the Portuguese Decree-Law No. 62/2018, international students are, in general,  nationals of a country outside the European Union, who have not resided legally in Portugal for more than 2 uninterrupted years by the 1st of January of the year in which they wish to be admitted to higher education institution. However, other conditions may apply, please refer to here and here for more information.

2. An up to date CV of your professional and educational background with a colour photo;
3. Payment of the application fee (50 euros);
4. University Degree Certificate and Academic Results Transcripts:

– Documents in English, Portuguese, Spanish or French do not require translation. Documents in any other language must be translated into English or Portuguese;

– If you are non-Portuguese, these documents must be certified in your country by a notary under the Hague Apostille Convention or by the Portuguese Consulate;​​​​​​​

 If your University Degree Certificate or Academic Results Transcripts do not contain Final Grade of the course, you have to submit an official document with its calculation and explanation of the grading system which were used in the institution where you received your Degree.
